To assure a bright future is open to everyone; we must proactively and creatively address the many challenges of today.

Meet Randy Thurston

The Voice of the Community

Pueblo is an extraordinary city in which to live. And much of what is truly special about Pueblo is what we have created here ourselves: Our Local Growers, the Farmers Markets. The preservation, restoration and revitalization of downtown, Our River walk,  a climate with over 300 days of sunshine, abundant water for future growth, a thriving arts community, beautiful parks and trails, among many hundreds of other wonderful features.

The future of Pueblo rests upon our ability to build on and further harness this natural energy and creativity to make our city an even greater place to live.

To assure this bright future is open to everyone; we must proactively and creatively address the many challenges of today on in the future.

In these turbulent political times, we must deliberately and seriously speak and act in a way true to who we are. Our city continues to face formidable challenges. We cannot pretend we don’t see them. We need to act and to plan for what the future will bring.

While politics sometimes plays to the deepest fears and divisions among us, there is another way, LEADERSHIP, a better way, a way that is rooted in respect, listening, collaboration and unity.

My job as your new Mayor of Pueblo is to prevent an unacceptable future.

The time to fix the leaking roof is when the sun is shining, and the time to prepare for the drought is when Lake Pueblo is full.

Why Vote For Randy Thurston?

I’m running for Mayor because Pueblo at this critical time needs a proven leader with unquestioned strength and commitment and a clear vision for the future.

At a time when the financial climate should breed responsible growth, success and investment in our city, Pueblo is found lagging behind.

I’m running for mayor so that a generation from now, citizens will be glad we made the decisions we’re going to make.

My job as your new Mayor of Pueblo is to prevent an unacceptable future.

After years of unimplemented recommendations, we need to do something to address displacement.

Now is the time we act deliberatively, affirmatively, and pro-actively to set ourselves on a forward driven course to meet the challenges of our future.

We’re going to do things with purpose, we’re going to do things that matter, but make no mistake, we are going to do things,  we’re all in this TOGETHER.

The future of Pueblo rests upon our ability to build on and further harness this natural energy and creativity to make our city an even greater place to live.

To assure this bright future is open to everyone; we must proactively and creatively address the many challenges of today on in the future.

For decades, Pueblo has been losing good jobs, opportunities and our greatest assets, “Our Kids”.

Big industrial companies, used to employ thousands of local workers at good pay, but they have packed up and left, But the creation of sustainable opportunities must be a priority for Pueblo in the coming years.

This means establishing policies and processes that encourage local entrepreneurs, providing job training tailored to the local labor market, and establishing a process of planning and zoning supportive of desirable local business.

Now, more than ever, I value opportunities for us to take stock of a year’s progress and to measure ourselves against the needs of the future.

In these turbulent political times, we must deliberately and seriously speak and act in a way true to who we are. Our city continues to face formidable challenges. We cannot pretend we don’t see them. We need to act and to plan for what the future will bring.

Ten years from now a new generation of  Puebloan’s will ask us what we did, at this time of great promise, to move forward both physically and financially?

This is our moment. We must act with our eyes focused clearly on the future from this day forth.

I am keenly aware of the problems and issues that face our great city.

While politics sometimes plays to the deepest fears and divisions among us, there is another way, LEADERSHIP, a better way, a way that is rooted in respect, listening, collaboration and unity .

A way that respects and appeals to the rich diversity of thought and opinion in our community and seeks to find and strengthen the bonds that brings us together as a city and a people.

This is an example, perhaps one of the best examples, of how puebloan’s need to move past the old paradigms of who’s fighting who in our city, and into a future where we value collaboration, listening to and respecting each other.

We need to find the truths in each other’s realities. That’s the only way we preserve the best of our city.

We cannot repeat the mistakes of the past any more than we can afford the cost that the stagnant quo is imposing on our community.

My job as your new Mayor of Pueblo is to prevent an unacceptable future. After years of unimplemented recommendations, we need to do something to address displacement.

The time to fix the leaking roof is when the sun is shining, and the time to prepare for the drought is when Lake Pueblo is full.

If we’re going to do the big things that are needed to plan for the future, we’re going to have to work together.

Now is the time we act deliberatively, affirmatively, and pro-actively to set ourselves on a forward driven course to meet the challenges of our future.

It is a moment when those things that define us as a community — that is, our openness, innovation, and creativity, our determination and devotion to core values of compassion and sustainability.

This is a moment that must be seized through hard work and bold decisions, with an eye on the future as we lay the foundation for lasting, and more equitable, prosperity for decades to come.

A city where all our streets are safe enough to play in and where our neighborhoods are again the very roots of our civic pride.

A City where our children are exceptionally well-prepared for the dynamic future that awaits them.  And, where opportunity is color-blind. And where prosperity is not the privilege of a few but is, instead, shared by us all.

As your new Mayor of Pueblo,
I will ensure that everyone has fair access to city services and facilities and I will empower community members to have a detailed understanding of city activities and a stronger voice in the budgetary and other processes of their government.

Tracking data and making that information publicly available can transform city work, through giving the public detailed performance measurements, holding the city accountable for its improvements and shortfalls, and empowering wider public input into a range of city actions.

As your new mayor, I will be committed to transparency that gives the public access to the city, online and in person.

I will be a tireless advocate to ensure that Pueblo is an inclusive city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

This city's best days and bright future are undoubtedly ahead of us. It's time to Rise Above, and become our better selves Pueblo.
